Mission
Mission statement:
To improve the quality of life and decrease suffering for companion animals by stemming the staggering animal over-population problem and by providing veterinary health care to companion animals in need.
Program Goals:
Surgical: To provide necessary spay/neuter services for companion animals including:
- Shelter dogs and cats and other stray/unclaimed dogs and cats
- Feral cats, barn cats, cat colonies
- Dogs and cats from rescue organizations
- Dogs and cats from families of low income
- Dogs and cats from Native American Nations
Medical: To provide necessary basic medical care for the above populations including:
- Physical Exams
- Vaccinations (DHLPP, FVRCP, and rabies)
- Feline leukemia testing
- Heartworm testing
- Ectoparasite treatment
- Additional infectious disease consulting for humane organizations
Consultation: To provide consultation and medical services to area animal shelters and humane societies to help prevent and treat infectious disease, diagnose and treat sick animals, consult about behavior issues, and provide assistance with any other shelter-related issues.
Education: To provide education in the following areas:
- Public (basic veterinary care, animal stewardship, importance of spaying and neutering pets)
- Shelter staff
- Humane education for area school children
- Veterinary students/interns/residents
Partnership: To work in conjunction with:
- Local communities
- Humane organizations
- Cornell and other institutions of higher learning
Development: To find funding sources and promote development activity to enable this program to continue and flourish. To also provide funds for animals in need to be determined on a case-by-case basis, animals must have a fair to good prognosis for full recovery, or special circumstances.
Operational Plan:
- Clinic operation 7 days per week resulting in at least 10,500 animals spayed and neutered annually
- Participate in speaking at State and National meetings about Shelter Medicine
- Actively pursue Grant Writing and Fundraising events
